The majolica base is hand-decorated in black, softened with touches of brown, and then wrapped in a second gold-plated layer. (Majolica is a type of earthenware pottery decorated with a clear metal glaze for a high gloss finish).The brass base is also plated with gold, and the black shade has a gold interior, for a very luxurious finish.
